The Joy Kingston Foundation offers scholarships to deserving students who are in their final year of a two or four-year degree program at an accredited institution. The students must be majoring in fashion, interior, product, or transportation design.

Guidelines for Scholarship Application

• Given the competitive nature of the scholarship and the limited number of awards, it is crucial to fill out all forms thoroughly and with great attention to detail.
• If you have applied before and were not selected, consider reviewing and improving your qualifications and academic achievements from your previous applications.
• Previous recipients of the scholarship are welcome to reapply. However, a prior award does not guarantee a subsequent one. Each application, including those from previous recipients, must be complete with a new application, essay, and all required materials.

Before Submitting Your Application

• It is highly recommended to seek the advice of a mentor or a respected business professional who can guide you through the application process. They can provide valuable feedback on your essay and proofread your application.
• Be prepared with the necessary information and experience to apply for need-based or merit-based funding.
• Ensure that you meet or will meet all the scholarship qualifications. Be ready to provide proof of eligibility before receiving funding.
• Create a checklist of all the items you need for the application.
• Print a copy of your entire application and keep it in a safe place. This will allow you to quickly resubmit your application if it gets lost.
• Ensure that all required documents are included in your application. Incomplete applications may be rejected.

Advice for Writing Your Essay

• Remember that the review committee will be going through many applications. They are not necessarily looking for the most accomplished students, but those who align with the foundation's core values and vision for the fashion industry.
• Include your personal beliefs, career objectives, and your views on the future of the industry in your essay. Establishing a personal connection through your writing can increase your visibility to the committee.
• Ensure that your essay stays on the requested topics.
• If you are applying based on financial need, dedicate at least one paragraph to this. If your financial situation has influenced your design visions or is relevant to your personality, feel free to include additional information.

Completing Your Application Package

• Include letters of recommendation from respected teachers and mentors.
• Include a summary page highlighting any achievements, extracurricular activities, academic accomplishments, and unique qualities that were not mentioned in your personal summary or essay.
