Digital Avionics Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
The AIAA Foundation provides scholarships to undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior, or senior years through its Undergraduate Scholarships Program. These scholarships can be renewed annually until the recipient graduates.
Additionally, the AIAA Foundation recognizes the exceptional research of graduate students in the air and space sciences through its Graduate Awards Program.
Applications for both the Undergraduate Scholarships and Graduate Awards must be submitted online. Applicants can apply for a maximum of three scholarships or awards. The application form requires you to specify your top choice for an award, as well as two additional awards you'd like to be considered for. It's important to note that applicants must show a clear academic interest in the subject area of the award they're applying for.
Eligibility for Undergraduate Scholarships
To be eligible for an AIAA Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a current AIAA Student member in good standing
- Have completed at least one full-time academic semester of college work
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.300 on a 4.000 scale, unless otherwise specified
- Be enrolled in an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. Territories, unless otherwise specified
- Have an education plan that includes coursework in a science or engineering field that leads to a career in aerospace engineering
Undergraduate Scholarships and Award Amounts
- Daedalus 88 Scholarship: $10,000. Applicants should highlight their entrepreneurial spirit by detailing their leadership in a student-led, hands-on multidisciplinary aerospace engineering project. Applicants must also be prepared to present on the project at a mutually agreed upon location.
- David and Catherine Thompson Space Technology Scholarship: $10,000
- Mary W. Jackson Scholarship: $10,000
- Vicki and George Muellner Scholarship for Aerospace Engineering: $5,000
- Space Transportation Scholarship: $1,500
- Rocky Mountain Section Scholarship: $500. This scholarship is only available to students studying at accredited institutions within the geographic boundaries of the AIAA Rocky Mountain Professional Section.
Digital Avionics Scholarships
- Cary Spitzer Digital Avionics Scholarship: $3,000
- Denise Ponchak Digital Avionics Scholarship: $3,000. This scholarship is only available to non-US Students studying at a non-US University. Students from embargoed countries are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

- Dr. James Rankin Digital Avionics Scholarship: $3,000
- Ellis F. Hitt Digital Avionics Scholarship: $3,000
