The Virginia High School League (VHSL) provides several annual scholarships for graduating high school seniors planning to pursue post-secondary education. These awards are part of the VHSL’s commitment to invest in Virginia’s young people and support their academic and career ambitions. Parents and students are encouraged to review the opportunities and apply.

- These scholarships are awarded each year to seniors who will enroll in post-secondary programs. Individual award descriptions below note any specific eligibility requirements.
VHSL Foundation Achievement Award
- Award amount: $2,000
- Number awarded: 19
- Description: Funded and presented annually by the VHSL Foundation, this scholarship honors senior scholar-athletes and senior participants in VHSL activities who have demonstrated strong academic achievement along with excellence in athletics and/or other school activities. Recipients must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution. Refer to the application form on the right for full details.
Savedge Scholarship Award
- Award amount: $500
- Number awarded: 1
- Description: Administered each year by the VHSL, the Savedge Scholarship recognizes one college-bound senior who has both participated in and excelled at school publications (magazine, newsmagazine, newspaper, or yearbook) and who exemplifies notable personal qualities. Consideration includes leadership, writing and design skills, creativity, teamwork, and character. See the application form on the right for more information.
Vito Perriello Citizenship Award
- Award amount: $1,000 each
- Number awarded: 2 per school year
- Description and requirements: These two scholarships honor students who have shown exceptional citizenship throughout their high school careers. Only graduates of VHSL member schools are eligible. Each VHSL member school may submit one nominated student. Nominees must have been involved in one or more VHSL activities; this can include serving as an athletic training student aide (ATSA) under a Virginia-licensed athletic trainer at their school. The member school principal is responsible for submitting the nomination package to the VHSL office. Applications must be postmarked by March 15 — late submissions will not be accepted. A statewide review committee, composed of educators and representatives from the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, evaluates nominations and selects the winners.
