In 2019, the CDC revealed that over 1.7 million individuals were grappling with cancer. Pilzer/Klein, P.C. has consistently provided support to families and individuals dealing with cancer diagnoses, particularly in navigating the complexities of Social Security and legal matters. The firm has now decided to extend this support further.

The Pilzer/Klein, P.C., Fighting Cancer Scholarship is a $2,500 grant available to a student who has been diagnosed with or is recovering from cancer. The firm's goal is to provide this financial aid to incoming or current college students across all disciplines. Applicants are required to submit an essay of 1,000 words, sharing their personal experience with cancer and their aspirations for the future.

Eligibility Criteria

The Fighting Cancer Scholarship is accessible to any undergraduate or graduate student who fulfills the following requirements:

  • You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • You must be enrolled or accepted at an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States.
  • You must agree to the scholarship's terms and conditions.
  • You must have personal experience dealing with cancer, such as a recent or childhood diagnosis.
  • You must submit all required application materials, including an essay of up to 1,000 words describing your experience with cancer.

Application Procedure

Ensure you meet all eligibility criteria and then prepare an essay on the provided scholarship topic.

Upon completion of your essay:

  • Complete the application form on this page
  • Upload a copy of your unofficial transcript
  • Upload a copy of your scholarship essay
  • Provide proof of enrollment/acceptance at an accredited college/ university/ graduate school (Student ID; Letter of acceptance; etc.)

Pilzer/Klein, P.C. does not require applicants to provide proof of a cancer diagnosis with their application materials.

Essay Topic for Scholarship

To participate, compose an essay of up to 1,000 words discussing your life post-cancer diagnosis. You can focus on one of the following areas:

  • The impact of cancer on your academic pursuits
  • The effect of the diagnosis on your family life
  • The types of support (financial, emotional, or other) that you found most valuable

Ensure your essay includes the following for eligibility:

  • A header with your full name, the scholarship's name, the name of your institution, the mailing address of your financial aid office, the email address and phone number of your financial aid office, and your student ID number.
  • An engaging and original title.

Once completed, save your essay in .PDF format with the title, “The Pilzer/Klein Fighting Cancer Scholarship 2025 – Student Name”, and submit it through the form.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is December 30, 2025. Late applications will not be considered.

After the deadline, our scholarship selection committee will review all submissions. The decision process can take between 1-3 months, depending on the number of applications received.

Unfortunately, due to legal constraints, we cannot accept calls, emails, or other forms of communication regarding the scholarship or answer any questions outside of those submitted here. All necessary information about this scholarship is provided above. We will contact you if we require additional information.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Terms and Conditions

All scholarship applicants must meet the eligibility requirements outlined on the application page, including:

  • Applicant must be enrolled at a college, university, or graduate school
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment
  • Applicant must be a resident of the United States
  • Applicant must be in good academic standing
  • Applicant must provide personal information, including name, contact information, and proof of enrollment.
  • Applicant must write an original essay of up to 1,000 words on the provided scholarship essay topic.

The following individuals are NOT eligible to apply:

  • Employees or children of employees of Pilzer/Klein, P.C.
  • Previous recipients of the Fighting Cancer Scholarship
  • Applicants who are unable or unwilling to be interviewed by a representative of Pilzer/Klein, P.C. if selected for a scholarship.
  • Applicants who submit the same essay for multiple scholarships

Selection & Award Notification Process

All applications must be received by the deadline specified on the application page. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be considered.

A scholarship selection committee will review applications. The committee's decision will not be influenced by age, race, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, or other protected classes.

Due to legal reasons and the large volume of applications, we cannot provide updates on application status or individual notifications to non-winners.

The Scholarship winners will be notified via email and announced on Pilzer/Klein, P.C.’s blog and through a press release.

The Scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient's college or university. Instructions for mailing the check will be requested at the time of the award.
