Monroe Scheflo Memorial Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by North Dakota Community Foundation
In 1985, the U.S. Durum Growers Association established a fund in honor of Monroe Scheflo, who served as the Association's President from 1982 to 1984. Scheflo, who succumbed to cancer at 43, was a native of Newburg, ND, where he completed his high school education. He tied the knot with Dianne Hanson in Minot and earned his college degree from Minot State College in 1964. After a decade of teaching, he transitioned to full-time farming near Bottineau, ND.
Scheflo was a vocal advocate for Durum research, promotion, and export expansion. He was proactive in addressing agricultural issues rather than merely criticizing them. He dedicated several years to working with commodity groups to enhance marketing conditions for his fellow farmers and acquaintances.
In 2014, the U.S. Durum Growers Association Scholarship fund was initiated to offer financial support to full-time college students from durum-producing states who are pursuing an agriculture degree.
Qualification Criteria:
- Monroe Scheflo Memorial Scholarship - Priority will be given to full-time agriculture students from North Dakota.
- U.S. Durum Growers Association Scholarship - Students from durum-producing states who are full-time agriculture students will be given preference.
