Introduction
The Whitlock Law Hope and Opportunity Scholarship recognizes and assists young people who experienced foster care and are now moving into higher education. Growing up in foster care often requires extraordinary perseverance and flexibility; this award aims to honor that resilience and help recipients continue their academic journeys.
Award Details
- Amount: $1,500
- Term: Fall 2025
- Purpose: To support individuals who were raised in foster care and are pursuing a college degree, and to give them a platform to describe how foster care shaped their lives.
Eligibility
Applicants for the Fall 2025 Hope and Opportunity Scholarship must meet all of the following:
- Spent part or all of their childhood in the foster care system.
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. college or university.
- At least 17 years old.
- A U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Evaluation and Requirements
All application materials specified in the scholarship instructions must be submitted for an application to be considered. Essays will be judged on these key elements:
- Relevance: Does the essay address the prompt and comply with the stated word count?
- Authenticity: Does the piece reflect the applicant’s genuine, personal experiences?
- Quality: Is the essay thoughtful, well-organized, and clearly written?
The scholarship seeks sincere, well-crafted submissions that convey how growing up in foster care influenced the applicant’s path.
