Par Mar Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Ritton Family Foundation
Introduction
For many years Par Mar Stores has concentrated its charitable efforts on supporting post-secondary education. That commitment continues through a joint effort with the Ritton Family Foundation to expand educational access. Each spring (February through April), high school seniors and current students who will be enrolled full-time in a college, university, trade or technical program working toward a degree or certificate are invited to apply for a Par Mar Scholars grant.
Scholarship program overview
The Ritton Family Foundation and Par Mar Stores fund multiple scholarships annually to help students from our communities pursue further education. Awards can be renewed for up to four years, and eligible students may submit an application each year they meet the requirements.
Who is eligible
You are eligible if you live in the Appalachian portions of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, or Kentucky. Applications are welcome from high school seniors planning to enroll and from students who are continuing full-time studies at a college, university, trade school, or technical program while pursuing a certificate or degree.
How to apply
The application period runs through April 15 each year (applications are invited February–April). You may apply online or complete and mail a paper application. Application forms may be copied and distributed to students who live in the eligible areas. Award recipients will be announced in late May.
How recipients are chosen
The scholarship committee representing the Ritton Family Foundation and Par Mar Stores will evaluate applicants based on academic performance, community involvement, school activities, honors, employment history, a statement of career goals, and demonstrated financial need.
Award payment
Ritton Family Foundation will issue scholarship payments by August 30. Funds will be sent as a check to the recipient’s home address, made payable jointly to the student and the educational institution. The check must be endorsed by both the recipient and the school.
